About this site

heatheryoungcounselling.com is the website of Heather Young Counselling. The site exists to share information about the practice, the services offered, and how to get in touch. Browsing the site, reading the content, or sending a contact email does not by itself establish a therapist-client relationship. See Section 4 for how that relationship actually begins.

This is not a crisis service

I am not a crisis service. If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, please contact a crisis line, your local emergency room, or 911.

This website provides information about Heather's practice; it is not therapy and it is not an emergency or crisis service. If you are in crisis, please use the resources above rather than waiting for a response from this site or from Heather directly.

Information on this site is not clinical advice

The content on this site, including pages about specific concerns like postpartum depression, mom rage, parent burnout, child sleep, grief, infertility, and life transitions, is for general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for individual assessment, diagnosis, or treatment by a qualified mental health professional. Reading this site does not establish a therapeutic relationship with Heather. If something you read here describes what you are going through, the next step is to reach out and talk.

How a therapist-client relationship begins

A therapist-client relationship with Heather only begins after a deliberate intake process. Browsing the site, submitting a future contact form, sending an email, or having a free 15-minute phone consultation does not, by itself, make you a client of the practice.

The intake process is intentional. Heather wants to make sure she can serve a new client well before committing to ongoing work. The steps are:

  1. You reach out by phone or email.
  2. Heather schedules a free 15-minute phone consultation with you.
  3. On that call, you talk about what is bringing you in, what you are hoping for, and any practical details. Heather assesses whether she is the right fit for what you are carrying.
  4. If you both agree to proceed, you book a first session. Only at that point does the therapist-client relationship begin.

Heather does not currently take new therapy clients who have not first spoken with her directly. This is a deliberate practice decision, not an obstacle. It protects the quality of the work.

Privacy and your information

How Heather handles personal information collected through this site and through the practice is described in the Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy and these Terms work together. If something is covered in detail in the Privacy Policy, it is not repeated here.
